Hunger is the most basic of human needs. It is really shameful that in this world there is such a big disparity between the haves and have-nots; But that it extends to whether or not one has a meal a day is unbearable. When we get hungry, even knowing there is always something to eat whether homemade or store-bought, the hunger pangs are difficult to bear. Especially at those times, we (should) think of those who are hungry but have no guarantee of finding food soon. It is heart breaking, and is the root of my passion for supporting efforts to feed the hungry.

There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.
— Mahatma Gandhi

In looking around for a program that addresses this issue, has a good record of being successful in providing the service, is accountable, and has a good possibility of sustainability, in addition to practising transparency in financial reporting, we came across Akshaya Patra. (Akshaya Patra is a mythical vessel that gives a never-ending supply of food).

This not-for-profit organization provides nutritious midday meals to school children in India. The availability of a nutritious meal also encourages the children to come to school. Thus, this program serves to feed the body and the mind. Education is my other passion, providing tools to improve lives. So it seemed like the perfect program for me to support via the foundation.

Classroom hunger affects children’s ability to learn and grow. To solve this challenge, Akshaya Patra began the Food for Education initiative which is continuously making an effort to feed children from over 13,000 schools in India.
